Why public restrooms? Well, you see, as my final project in Intro to Photo at the University of Colorado Denver, I was determined to come up with a subject matter that I had not yet previously explored. I've always loved photos of doors and windows, old rusty things and trees in black and white...but I asked myself what would challenge me as a photographer? And thus, I decided that public restrooms would be my niche. Let me just say that public restrooms are not the friendliest environments for photography. There are people coming in and out...looking at me with curiosity, fear and sometimes contempt. They do not realize that my goal is to take my photos without any people in them and so I often times find myself explaining this to complete strangers.
Since the beginning of this project I have taken pictures all over Denver, Colorado, some at Yellowstone National Park, New Jersey, New York, Philadelphia and Manama, Bahrain. It's interesting how unique each public restroom is and although it is quite an odd subject matter, I hope you will enjoy this blog as I travel along taking pictures of public restrooms all over the world.
